Granton - Stanford, South Africa

In this collaboration with Sarah Kuiper of Median Architects, we were asked to re-imagine a holiday home for a large family. The original and much-loved house was lost in a fire. In thinking of a new home, we needed to be respectful of its memory but also celebrate its beautiful location - something that the original house did not do. The house needed to be comfortable for a pair, and perfect for a crowd, able to open up fully, and close off when needed. To honour its memory, original materials were reused but reinterpreted to represent the new house. While the house’s original footprint was preserved, the interior was completely reconfigured to capitalise on dramatic views and embrace contemporary living.
